A lower price doesn't necessarily mean a lower value.
Are you afraid to lower your prices, but you're not getting the sales you need to keep afloat in this economy without doing SOMETHING?
List your Current Retail price, and then list a lower price next to it. Let your art collectors know that the lower price is a temporary reduction due to the economic climate.
Exp: Current Retail $1,900., Art Collector Appreciation Price $1,200.
or Current Retail Value $1,900., Temporary Lower Price $1,200.
or Retail $1,900., Limited Time Offer $1,200.
Explain your reason for lowering the price:
Exp:
"We know the economy has affected artists and art galleries as well as art collectors, therefore we have temporarily lowered our prices."
Are you worried about your art collectors who may be upset that they paid more for a similar work of art?
Again, talk or write in a simple conversational way:
Exp: "Like everything else, real estate, jewelry, etc., art can fluctuate with the economy. The price will go back up as soon as the economy goes back up. Now is a actually a good time for you to buy art."
Remember if you're talking to your art collectors on the phone or in person, speak in a friendly non-confrontational voice. The customer is always right. Never use the word "no", just begin your explanation simply and calmly.
